  • la nuit rustique : exposition

On était invité par nos amis les Tontons Racleurs de participer dans leur résidence au Recyclart pendant le mois d’avril. Après le premier réunion, on était tous d’accord avec une idée : de créer un Hôtel Rustique.

We were invited buy the silkscreen collective les Tontons Racleurs to participate in their residency at Recyclart for the month of April. After our first meeting, we all were struck by the idea to create a “Hôtel Rustique” in the exposition space…

The first fruit of our work was a cabin built out of pallets. The size of the cabin was roughly based on the size of the actual Hôtel Rustique room.

Inside the cabin, we decided to fight wood with wood by placing a grainy pattern on the walls.

You might recognise this from the site!

The idea quickly changed from remaking the hôtel to creating a space within a space, an intimate tent rustique where one can rest. For this we used a pinecone pattern.

And the idea developed: the cabin as bark, the walls as wood,

    the floor as the leaves,

    the tent as the pinecone

& the pillows and cover as the seed.

After the preparations, the night was set into motion:

Given our invitation to visit the interior, the first visitors were from an earlier generation !

Then the Tontons Rustiques took over the tent for a concert:

The unanimous hit of the set was “le Bois”.

Here is the tent at night.

Here is the Pickle & Onion Rings shadow opera, performed for the opening. The music is on the CD that comes with the ‘book’.

Many thank you’s to the receptive public, the Tontons for the experience  & Nico for the additional photos !
